Peculiar problem with PICSTART Plus programmer !!
PostPosted: Sun Jul 13, 2003 1:11 am     Reply with quote

Hi All,

My PICSTART Plus programmer has a peculiar problem,.. whenever I program a 16F877 micro-controler, the programmer displays an error..

Program memory or Data memory is protected. Reprogram the entire part.

I checked the configuration bits , the code protect option was disabled.

The programmer works alright sometimes, though most of the times it generates the error.

Also the failure rate of the 16F877 ic is more than 16F628 ic.

Kindly advise as to why this problem occurs. Please also note that the power supply to the programmer is grounded properly.

thanks

arun

There have been a large number of revisions and bug fixes for this Microchip product. Some involving changes in the value of resistors inside the picstart+. Goto Microchip's website under technical support for details. I can confirm that Picstart plus with all the many revisions and fixes does support the 16F877 and PCM.
Good news is that you won't have to wait months for a fix from Microchip.
P.S.
There are some serious programming problems remaining with the 18F8720 and Picstart+ that I think that Microchip might admit to in the next several months increasing the possibility of a solution sometime in 2004.
