Microchip ICD2 vs. ICD-U (USB)
PostPosted: Sun Jun 22, 2003 2:36 pm     Reply with quote

Hello,

Does the CCS ICD-U (USB) provide the same functionality as Microchip ICD2? If not, what are the differences? I can't find this information anywhere. Which of the two do you recommend?

Thanks!
Thomas

I sent my ICD2 back last year for a full refund. In the early days MIcrochip dumped their ICD1 ( this annoyed me ) and marketed their ICD2 after little testing and sparse support from MPE LAB 6.
In stark contrast CCS supported the ICD1 and even upgraded it to debug with the 18Fxxxx. Frankly the ICD from CCS is the superior product if you use the CCS compiler and IDE with debugger. CCS is both superior in speed and features.
CCS ICD is half the price more than twice the speed and has more advanced features than ICD 2 .

Thank you for your reply! Sound like you really love the product from CCS. Anyway, I am using PCM command line compiler right now and if I have to buy the PCW plus the ICD-U, it will cost more than ICD2.
Regards,
Thomas
