How can I set compiler built-in functions set to #SEPARATE

Is there a possibility to set C-Compiler built-in functions as read_eeprom() a.s.o. to be compiled as separate function to save ROM space?

Below is the basic idea I have used for years.

#separate
my_i2c_start()
{
i2c_start();
}

main()
{
my_i2c_start();
}
