Can anybody please recommend a linear low-drop 5V 2A voltage regulator (TO220)? Thanks.

Possible choices are:
Linear Technology - LT1528, LT1529 & LT1764/A however I don't believe these are available as TO-220 packages. Drop-out voltage ranges from 600mV down to 340mV, 3A output current

National Semicondutor - LP3856, LP3876, LP3966, LP3853, LP3873 and some others.

I'd suggest you prowl around on Linear Tech's site, National Semiconductor's site, On-Semiconductor (Motoroloa) and Micrel. You have lots of choices based on quiescent current, drop-out (the term "Low Drop Out" is a relative thing), input voltage range, temp rating and pin-outs.

5V Low Drop (1.5V max)
Guaranteed output current up to 5A
Package TO220

OOOH, this is off topic, but can you tell me if National has an IC temp sensor that's rated for more than 300 deg Farenheit? In some of their paperwork I've seen them mentioned, but I can't find any for sell.

National Temp Sensors

High temp sensors

Above 300F you may have to go to platinum RTDs (not as expensive as it sounds) or thermocouples. It is just hard to package a silicon chip for those temperatures!
