Can't Remove Breakpoint Error
PostPosted: Sat Feb 21, 2004 10:15 am     Reply with quote

ICD-U40, PCWH 3.185 (3.184) '877 at 85% ROM capacity power externally (not from ICD-U).

I am seeing a LOT of errors popping up after a compile and reload where the IDE is complaining that the breapoint couldn't be removed. It then puts another in the break list and advises with another error box that only one breakpoint is allowed with the target. The list of "extra" BPs in the Breaks window can get up to 3-4 BPs listed.

The only way to get back to proper operation is to restart the IDE and then delete the BP. I've used this test setup many times with '876 processors and didn't see the problem. This time it is with an '877 that is almost out of ROM.

Has anyone seen this problem?

I have the same configuration except I am using a 16F88. I am also seeing this problem. It happened to me when I had a breakpoint set, changed source code with the auto reload option set, and the IDE forgot to clear the breakpoint before it loaded the new code. Now it seems out of sync... permanently. So far I've just lived with it because it hasn't completely shut me down yet. When I get more time I guess I should report it to CCS.

I too have seem this problem. You have to be careful to remove any breakpoint before reloading the program to the chip or you'll have this problem.

You can resolve the issue by closing the debug window and the closing the IDE window. After reopneing the IDE the dubug window will allow you to remove the previous breakpoint.

I have reported this (and multiple other issues) to CCS and am told this particlular issue is fixed in the next release. I do not know when this is coming out, however.

I think when we discover these problems it is important to reprot them to CCS asap as this will speed getting them fixed.

The last few releases seem to have badly broken a steadily improving debugger to the point where using it has become frustrating.
