You could also get 161, if it was busy at the same time.

As a further comment to this, intermittent 'ERROR' status, could reflect a power supply problem, rather than a chip problem. If there is something else that is happening 'synchronous' to your reading of this, it might be that this is increasing the noise on the supply rail. They specify 20mV max ripple on the supply, and 20mA when working. They say the unit has an internal decoupling capacitor, but this does not mean you can run without an external one, unless the supply has a nice low impedance and is well smoothed already.
