				Hi all,

After we purchased the PCW version, a few days later we got a secret code to download the software and use it while waiting for the disk and manual to arrive. That installed fine, and we have it on two computers (XP) and we have now written 2 projects in C that are working great. fine.

when the disk arrived, thats when the trouble started. But the disk gives errors and refuses to install the software. Here is what I get:

I click on the top button for compiler only install

Error box - cant create PDF. I close

Error box - cant create new directory - I close

Then the folders appear, and it says extracting... Forever. Never stops even after 4 hours.

We tried on three different win XP computers, and it did not install.

most of the computers allready have MPLAB working on them, we have used other compilers for years on them with no problems.

Now this is a big problem, since we need a fully working install disk from the manufacturer for our company data files. Has anyone had this happen? Any thoughts? I did write tech support, and hopeing today to either have a solution or send me a working disk. |

unless your "Administrator" settings are fouled up on the PC's , it

sounds like a bad disk to me.

with the 3 code enabling files you got by email - plus download installs

you are in business while it gets sorted , so

i am sure customer support will work it out with you. |

As Asmboy says, it sounds like a corrupted disk.

I'd write the downloaded version onto a disk or USB stick, and store that to give you a working version 'stored', until a new disk can be sourced. Like you I have to store masters for all tools used, but a USB stick is acceptable for this. |

Keep in mind these are dye based, burned CD's NOT pressed.

a burned CD is an order of magnitude MORE likely to fail in the first

year than a pressed, metallized disk. and "n times" more likely bad in the

short term too.

The download of CCS compiler on a quality flash stick ( along with the .CRG files)

is all you EVER need. and i treat updates like that too.

All that CD has on it was the latest version when they burned it.

you want the maint updates - trust me ....

So waiting for a CD's is a waste of time, IMHO. |

Your probably right - the latest is the download. But when I purchase software from a major company with the manual for the most I have ever paid for any software in my life, I expect the disk to at least load what it has on it.

They responded finally - they are sending me another disk. Ill let you guys know what happens!
