need 1 Kb of RAM
PostPosted: Sun Jun 06, 2004 7:49 pm     Reply with quote

I want to add RAM to a project. I need to buffer about 600 bytes so I need 1Kb of RAM and I can't find any serial (I2C) static RAM of that size, not either a vendor of the PCF8570. I want to use a PIC because I have all the code almost finished, the compiler, programmer, etc. Does anybody have an idea which configuration of microcontroller and RAM can I use?
tks

How about fram? This one would suit your size requirements.

You didn't say what PIC you're using.

If you're using a 16F877, then change to a 18F452.

Move from 368 bytes of ram to 1536 bytes. There's your 1K.
It's cheaper, too.

thanks for your answers.
The project is running now buffering 50 bytes on a 16F628 so the 18F452 seems to be "so much" for that task.
the FM24C16 looks to be very interesting. I have to study the protocol to r&w, timing and availability on the market.
tks again

FM24C16

The FM24C16 is a drop in replacement for the standard 24C16 EPROM the only difference being there is no wait time required after writes. I used the 24c16 driver and removed the wait after write delays.
