Proper way to upgrade CCS PCW/PCM/PCH?

Is it okay to just install on top of the previous version?
Or is it best to uninstall (leaving the config files in the directory), and doing a fresh install?

(I've always installed on top of the previous one with no problems, but just wondering)

I (and others as well) save the old version off, 'just in case'. I just rename the directory to PICCxxxx where xxxx is the version #. Then I just install the new - seems to work.

I keep all my previous versions in a "ccs_c/release" directory. I install the IDE in ccs_c/PICC. When I upgrade I install right over the top of the previous version. If I need to downgrade temoporaily for some reason I just re-run the previous version install program on top of the newer one.

This has worked with no problems for me so far and saves some disk space over maintaining a full directory structure for each version.

If you switch back and forth quite a bit, keeping separate directories as suggested above sounds like the best way.
