OCD for PIC

The project you envision, OSD without using video sync hardware is extremely complex and is likely much more than you are prepared for!! I feel sure it is way beyond anything we are prepared to coach you through here.

The last time I did it in software it took me almost 6 months and a LOT of code and test equipment (dual trace scope etc.) to make it work. Even so it was pretty limited due to speed limitations of the PIC chip. At the least you need to use a 40MHZ chip to be able to generate a decent H and V sync train.

If you are not well experienced in coding or working with video you may want to go the hardware route using an OSD chip. Circuit Cellar magazine has published several of these.

Hello Analyzer,

I think a good choice is the STV5730 from STM.
I don't used this chip, but the schematics etc. looks very easily.
Please have a look to Don Lancaster's webside. There was a 'tech musing' some year ago.

I am currently involved in such a project, using STV5730A and a PIC452 in c language.

I recently published some code on this forum, that might interest you. The best place to start is going through the two main docs from ST-Thomson (Datasheet & Eval Guide).

Are you interested in analogue and Digital video OSD on the final output?
