Bluetooth modules
PostPosted: Tue Mar 16, 2004 5:48 pm     Reply with quote

I need to get a Bluetooth module for a project.
Just a simple 115.200 Buad uart connection.

Has anyone tried using the "Blue Radios" SMT module ?

I haven't tried their module but I do have 2 of the Parallax eb500 modules on my desk. $99 each. I've been playing with them and had good luck so far. However the two widgets I've been adapting them to use 9600bps and 19.2kbps, not 115k so I haven't run them at top speed yet.

I also got a Linksys USBB100 to use on my laptop. That works pretty well with the eb500 modules.

Looks very much like the Blue Radio "Blue Stamp" moule.

My project is 3.3V only.

I do need minimum 115.200 and would really like to have 460800bps which I think the blue radio is able to do.

I haven't taken the time to decipher what some of the support ICs are doing but I think the bluetooth module itself is 3.3V and there is a 3.3V regulator on the carrier printed circuit board.

The spec sheet says the module can run up to 230.4kbps but they only give a power consumption spec up to 115.2kbps (35mA during xmit).

I have a project using RS232 that I'd like to untether but it only runs at 19.2kbps now.

Anyway I'm curious to know how the Blue Radio module works out. I skipped them on my first pass because this seemed to be a less expensive module in small quantities.
