max7219 simple code
PostPosted: Fri Oct 19, 2018 6:42 am     Reply with quote

Hello everyone,

I am trying to use max7219 and drive 8x8 led matrix.

I have searched the forum and google. There are tons of libraries and examples.

However, there is not one simple example code which i can turn on the led on first row and first column.

I don't understand the libraries. The examples do multiple things and it hard to filter the which line is necessary.

I don't like to ask this but is there any simple code which i can blink led on row 1 column 1?

Thank you so much!

best wishes, Doguhan

I downloaded the datasheet and think you have to configure the chip for 'no decode mode'. There's quite a few 'initial configuration' steps to take as well, but I assume that after that, if you send 0x01 to address 0xX1 then the top LED will turn on, though maybe it's the bottom LED.
If I had a module here I'd try it but sadly it doesn't have a 'hex decode' option where 0...F would be displayed. Now that's really silly to not have in my opinion.
