Microchip ICD2 Programming distance
PostPosted: Mon Aug 03, 2015 7:24 am     Reply with quote

i know this is not CCS related, however I wondered if anyone had any experience in this. I need to program a board using ICSP, the board is located in a place that I can not easily get a laptop and my ICD2 close enough to comfortably program it. I was thinking of setting my laptop and ICD2 about 20 feet away and use a long (20ft) cable to connect the ICD2 to my board. is this distance going to be ok? obviously I will test before the real thing.

Just Google it:
Quote:
icd2 maximum cable length

20 ft. is too long. The document titled "Troubleshooting MPLAB ICD 2" says:
Quote:

Keep the total length of the MPLAB ICD 2 cable and your board under 18 inches.

In some cases that is too long.

Can you string out USB cables and a USB hub (or hubs) for most of the 20' and have your ICD2 right next to your target?
