Using ICD-U40 on the Explorer16
PostPosted: Fri Jan 09, 2009 11:21 am     Reply with quote

Hi,
I just bought an ICD-U40 (CCS 2.50 Rev #101) and am trying to use it to program a 24FJ128GA010 on an Microchip Explorer16 demo board. When I select the J series PIC target type it does correctly identify the chip with the "test target" command, but when I try to program the chip I get verification errors. Then I just tried to do a bulk erase and verify program memory blank, but that fails as well (first the progress box shows very slow execution[several minutes], then expecting FF, but reading various values).

I have have been using an older ICD-U40 for years on 16 and 18 series chips and that has always worked great, but I'm not getting anywhere with the new setup. Has anyone been able to talk to the 24F on an Explorer16 with their ICD? Thanks,
Stan.

You may want to use an ICD-2 or PICkit 2 for the time being. I had similar problems with 24FJ128GA106 and 24FJ192GA106 up to most recent ICD software V2.102, particularly with apparently wrong configuration word addresses. I'm still waiting for an ICD software operational with these chips. Incorrect chips IDs have been recently corrected.

The ICD-U40 works great with the Explorer 16 boards and PIC24/dsPIC chips.

Make sure you select the J-series type chip using the Radio button on the ICD control panel.
Also, ensure that the board is correctly powered up (+3.3 v).
