EEPROM Write Cycles
PostPosted: Wed Mar 19, 2003 1:19 pm     Reply with quote

Hello All
I’m working with a PIC16F876.
Does any one know how many millions or trillions of read cycles the EEPROM is good for?
Or as far as reading it is just like program area flash memory.
I know that the Data sheet points out that the write cycle endurance is min 100K.
But no data on the read endurance.
Can I assume that it is trillions of cycles?
Can some one point me to some MicroChip data some place.

Thank you All

In AN601, at the bottom-left side of page 2, it says that
reads do not affect endurance.

The author says that ferromagnetic EEPROMs can have their
endurance affected by reads. But I don't believe Microchip
uses this technology (Ramtron does). So I think Microchip
EEPROM, whether in a PIC or a separate package, can be
read any number of times, without having any endurance problem.
