Editing EEPROM data with Mach-X

Hi,
I'm using Mach-X with an ICD-U. I am unable to edit EEPROM data and have the changes stickin Mach-X. i.e I plug in an 877 read the all the data, edit the EEPROM to a new value, click OK , plug in a new 877 and program it. The original EEPROM value ends up be written. What am I doing wrong?
