Using MPLAB as debugger
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2006 1:21 pm     Reply with quote

I have an ICD2 from microchip, which, if I understand correctly, doesn't work with PCWH. So I am trying to use MPLAB as the debugger, but it isn't working. At first, when I picked MPLAB from the tools menu, it didn't find the mplab executable. So, I changed the directory in the Options/debugger menu, and now it finds MPLAB OK, but MPLAB just comes up blank with nothing loaded. I assume that PCWH should pass project information to MPLAB so that it knows what to debug, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Am I missing something here? Thanks for your help.

Did you pick CCS as the tool set you want to use?
If you don't see it in the tool list, then you need to run the plug-in

I have installed the plug-in on MPLAB (v7.10), chosen CCS as the compiler, and I can compile my C code in MPLAB. I don't, however, see CCS in the tools menu in MPLAB. Should it be there?

What I'm really trying to do, however, is program and compile using the PCWH IDE, then use MPLAB only for debugging with my ICD2? Is this possible? Am I going about it all wrong? Thanks for your input.
