Hi,
At my company, we (half-jokingly) call tantalum capacitors "the gift that keeps on giving", because they have been responsible for more repair revenue than probably any other single issue in our 30 year history :-)!

PS We avoid using them, or use them much more sparingly, now! |

T caps ....time bombs that WILL go off at the most opportune time causing the most T damage possible !!
After destroying 3 months of wirewrapped test equipment due to one T caps exploding (took about 3 seconds), I swore I'd never, ever use another again. That was Dec 16th 1976..funny how you remember things like that.
Is there ANY great reason to use them at all?
You can use a 50c PIC for precise timing these days......

This is especially true, now we have the chip ceramic capacitors.
There are a few (very few) applications where tantalum's are worth using, |
