Still the same pin. That is hardware defined.

Are you absolutely sure you are connecting to the right pin?.

MISO, should be going to pin 23 on the 4620.

Hi T,

I have the MISO connected to PIN 42 of the 18LF4620.

If you still have a 1K resistor in series between the compass and PIC, you've got a voltage divider when the compass goes low.......

Hi J,

I added the 1K resistor in series, as I kept getting faulty COMPASS modules, suspecting that the pull-down of the MISO PIN was 'breaking' them.

from an AK8963C datasheet...

Operating supply voltage:
• Analog power supply +2.4V to +3.6V
• Digital Interface supply +1.65V to analog power supply voltage.

... no 'typical schematic' though'

Sure looks like that device is a 2 volt (1.65) unit so it'd be nice to know if you have a chip or a module. If a module, please supply link to mfr website

So you are using a QFN package.

What have you got Vid connected to?.
This defines the logic input voltage. It is allowed to be 1.65v min up to
Vdd max.
How is the circuit supplied?. Note that the compass _requires_ the
power supply to rise in less than 50mSec.
