12 Pin PCB connector?

Hi

This question is off topic, but I was wondering if someone could suggest a 12 pin connector that will be attached to a PC board. My intention is to use it to program the PIC in line, as well as get output from the board from the other pins.

The connector has to be as small in real estate area as possible, as well as have a life of approximately 500 insertions.

Can someone please recommend such a connector, and where I can get it from?

What about the simplest thing, a dual row pin header ? 2 x 6 pins. widely available. you can also buy the female headers and make your own flatcables.

Thank you for your message. The conventional 2.5mm header is too big for our application. But I would like something similar to that.

There are pin headers with 2.54mm 2mm 1.27mm 1mm and even 0.5mm pitch. You can chose what is more likely available at the parts distributors in your country.
If 2.54mm is too big, I would go for 1.27mm, it is a good trade-off between small size and usability/endurance.

If I were to use a 1.27mm spacing header- what kind of cable would I need? Would I be able to use the regular ribbon cable used in a 2.5mm header?

No (and yes*).
- the dual-row 2.54mm pitch connectors need a 1.27mm pitch flatcable
- a dual-row row 1.27mm pitch connector needs a 0.635mm pitch flatcable. These connectors and the cable are called 'half pitch' or 'fine pitch' i.e. 1.27mm for the conector and 0.635mm for the cable, (because of the two rows, the cable has to be twice fine)

*there are dual-row half pitch (1.27mm) connectors using two normal pitch (1.27mm) cables stacked above each other. like this one shown here: Hirose but I think it is easier and less expensive to find a half-pitch cable
