What silicon revision is reported by MPLAB when the Pickit 3 connects
to the 16F1783 ?

OK. More news. Code seems to run fine (been here before, however) using a ICD3 debugger. Tested the PICKit3 on another target on another project using a PIC18F87J60 and it works fine. I wonder if there might be an issue with the PICKit3 on the PIC16F1783?

That's silicon revision B4, which is the latest one. The errata for that
revision doesn't list any CPU bugs. There are some quirks, but you're
not doing any of the things listed in the errata that could cause them.

Look at the Pickit 3 settings and make sure you haven't set it a manually
restricted range of PIC addresses. You should select the following
option. It's the default:

Yes, everything is pretty simple. I remember also having strange issues using the PICKit3 with another PIC16F device. I'll keep the group posted.
